World War Three – Our own Fifth Column.

Our parents went through World War Two. And most of them survived. The scourge of Fascism affected almost the entire world. One of the worst elements of the enemy was the so called “Fifth Column.”

The name came from The Spanish Civil War. Here I quote from Encyclopædia Britannica.

Fifth column, clandestine group or faction of subversive agents who attempt to undermine a nation’s solidarity by any means at their disposal. The term is conventionally credited to Emilio Mola Vidal, a Nationalist general during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39). As four of his army columns moved on Madrid, the general referred to his militant supporters within the capital as his “fifth column,” intent on undermining the loyalist government from within.

A cardinal technique of the fifth column is the infiltration of sympathizers into the entire fabric of the nation under attack and, particularly, into positions of policy decision and national defense. From such key posts, fifth-column activists exploit the fears of a people by spreading rumours and misinformation, as well as by employing the more standard techniques of espionage and sabotage.

Our generation, from the very old to the very young, is now trying to cope with another dreadful enemy. And we must be careful of a new type of Fifth Column. These are the Covid-19 sceptics and deniers who claim that it is not dangerous, that it is a hoax, that we can blame the Chinese and therefore not take responsibility, that it is undermining our rights and so should be ignored.

Maybe it did come from China. But it is now here – wherever ‘here’ is for you – and blaming the source is stupid. It’s like saying that every time some person in Australia dies from a gunshot we should blame America because that’s where the gun came from. Only a mad person would say that.

The following link is a talk by a doctor who wants us to believe that we are being hoaxed. I believe it should come under the heading of A Fifth Column that is attempting to undermine the efforts made by all the doctors and nurses and staff who work day and night to save people’s lives. During the war they would be imprisoned. If you are a sceptic and a believer in hoaxes then you will enjoy it. If not you will wonder why it isn’t banned.

If things like this upset you then don’t click on the arrow.

  1. You are absolutely right about this fitting the description of a fifth column. It is because of talks like this that people have been ignoring medical advice to wear masks and to social distance when with other people! It appears to me that this clip came from Fox News, which in itself is a sort of fifth column. Fox News is the TV channel that our ‘leader’ watches and thinks is great because they seem to like what he represents. Trump’s base all watch Fox News, as well — but not those who see through him.

And, thanks to this type of advice, just today, the Governor of California and the Mayor of Los Angeles have reimposed the lockdown conditions from a couple of months ago, due to the increased surge in Covid-19 statistics in the Southern half of California — all indoor activities involving more than family groupings are again banned (dine-in restaurants, bars, churches, in-person meetings of any kind indoors, beauty salons, etc ~ ~ ~ ). It can be confusing as to what advice to follow, and common sense backed by science seems to be the most sensible approach!

  2. The problem is identifying the sick and the healthy. As many as 80% of Covid carriers have no symptoms and furthermore, the test itself is not 100% accurate.
Incidentally, you are right about our parents surviving WW2 or I wouldn’t be writing this, but a lot depends on the ethnic group. In 1940, the Germans killed every black person in Alsace Lorraine (ex-American soldiers who had married French girls) and they killed every black French soldier they could find:

  3. I did not click the link because I feel I am being driven crazy by both the believers as well as nay-sayers. There is enough and more information now readily available to those who care to search the WWW, to support whatever is your inclination to believe.
